大学时，男孩申请的是美国一个学术与篮球都很出色的大学——杜克大学。刚进杜克大学，大家的不信任又跟着来了，他们说：“哦，别看你在高中篮球打得很好，但大学里人才很多，你应该不会那么出色了，因为你速度比较慢，跳得也不高，而且你还不够强壮，更别说你的篮球意识也不够强。”这些话，男孩在12岁时听过，在十四五岁的时候也听过，已经不再是刺激，他想到的仍是自己该怎么做。男孩依旧站到镜子面前喃喃自语：你没有放弃追梦吧，接近梦想，哪怕每天一点点，准备好了吗？你要去向那些质疑你的人证明，证明他们是错的，你必须不断地奋斗。每天接近梦想一点点，最终让男孩成为了杜克大学一名攻防一体的全能前锋。2001年男孩率领杜克大学获得NCAA（美国大学体育总会）总冠军，并被提名为MOP（美国大学锦标赛最杰出球员）。

四年的大学生活结束以后，男孩决定加入NBA。不出所料，周围的质疑声又来了，他们说：“你大学的时候是很好的球员，但是你绝对不可能是一个优秀的专业球员。”

凭着每天接近梦想一点点的执著，男孩毕业不久，就被灰熊召入麾下。2006年，他被火箭挖走。2011年，随着火箭的重建，老东家灰熊又怜香惜玉般地把他召回。在季后赛面对强大的马刺，他凭借着自己的防守和精准的三分帮助球队完成黑八奇迹（指NBA季后赛中，排名第八的球队击败排名第一的球队）。而他最辉煌的时刻莫过于现在在迈阿密热火队效力，他屡次帮助球队拿下关键比赛，夺得两枚总冠军戒指，成为杜克大学历史上第一个拥有总冠军戒指的球员。

这个男孩就是有着NBA赛场上“蝙蝠侠”之称的肖恩·巴蒂尔。
