软化水树脂化学和热稳定性
软化水树脂不溶于水，稀或中等浓度的酸碱及其它普通溶剂，但长期存放于有大量活性氯，次氯酸根离子或其它强氧化性溶剂中，其交联就会被破坏，且使得离子交换树脂的含水量有上升趋势，强度也会有所下降，同时还会出现少数分解产物。同所有磺酸基苯乙烯树脂一样，在碱性条件下，其钠型可耐温1500C，而氢型在高于1200C时就会失去交换能力，因为其功能基团会逐渐被羟基所取代。
